Full designation Carrier, Fire Support, Full Track M113A1 (FS) Scorpion Turret. This was an Australian development of the M113 APC (Armoured Personal Carrier). 15 Australian M113s were converted to take the turret from the retired Saladin armoured cars. These were designated M113 FSV (Fire Support Vehicle) and were designed to provide direct fire support to ground troops. These FSVs were subsequently further developed with the fitting of the British Scorpion reconnaissance tank turret to become M113 MRVs (Medium Reconnaissance Vehicle). This is the vehicle we see here. With the turret change came a change in role: that of recce rather than direct combat.
